Dryad’s Saddle Mushroom Liquid Culture
(Cerioporus squamosus)
Cloned from a wild sample collected in our home town of Penryn, Cornwall. Dryad’s Saddle are amongst some of the largest capped mushrooms found throughout the UK. Our Dryad’s Saddle culture produces large, trumpet shaped mushrooms with fan like caps, with a tendency to fruit one or two large mushrooms or 3-4 smaller mushrooms. It has a distinctive but pleasant smell of cucumber or watermelon rind when young and fresh (we advise harvesting the mushrooms when they are young for a better taste/texture). It can be great in making a big mushrooms stock as the size of the fruits can be so large.
This culture is lab-prepared under sterile conditions and suspended in a nutrient-rich solution, ideal for hardwood-based substrates and logs. A fantastic and relatively easy choice if you’re interested in growing native species and a unique and rewarding to grow addition to your culture library.
By purchasing native strains, you help to reduce the effect we as mushrooms farmers have on the ecosystem and help to reduce the spread of invasive fungi which can outcompete native fungi.
Features:
- 1x 10ml of high-quality, actively growing culture
- 1x sterile needle
- Tested to ensure only mushroom mycelium is present
- Ideal for hardwood sawdust and logs
- Suitable for expansion to grain, agar, or other media
Suitable Substrates:
- Hardwood sawdust
- Sterilized wood chips or logs
How to Use:
-
Shake Before Use
Gently shake the syringe to evenly distribute the mycelium throughout the liquid. -
Work Sterile
Ensure a clean work environment. Use a still air box or laminar flow hood, and sanitize all surfaces, tools, and gloves with 70% isopropyl alcohol. -
Inoculate Substrate
Inject 1–2 ml of liquid culture into your sterile substrate. Dryad’s Saddle does best on hardwood sawdust. Use a sterile needle and injection port for best results. -
Incubate
Keep inoculated containers in the dark at 20–24°C (68–75°F). Colonization typically takes 2–3 weeks. -
Introduce to Fruiting Conditions
Move to a fruiting chamber with moderate humidity, good fresh air exchange, and indirect light. Dryad’s Saddle prefers cooler temps (15–21°C / 59–70°F) and needs high humidity to produce large fruits.
Store under 5°C. Refrigerate.
Use within 3 months for best results
